History

The Bronx Lab School opened in September 2004 as a small new school within the New York City Department of Education. Bronx Lab was founded in partnership with two organizations, the Institute for Student Achievement and FEGS Health and Human Services. We occupy space in the Evander Childs campus complex, and are one of several small new schools that replaced a phased-out Evander Childs High School, which as of September 2005 no longer accepted ninth grade students. Whereas the graduation rate at Evander was typically around 30%, at Bronx Lab it has been around 90% for each of our first three graduating classes.

Marc Sternberg was the founding principal of the Bronx Lab School, and now serves as the Deputy Chancellor of Portfolio Planning for the New York City Department of Education.
